The AI for Space initiative aims to foster collaboration between ISRO, industry, and academia to advance AI technologies and their application to space exploration. The initiative includes partnerships with major technology companies, universities, and research organizations to develop and apply AI technologies to space exploration and science.
Objective:
Self-reliance in SSA: Since SSA is essential from a national security perspective as well as protection of public and private space assets of Indian origin, there is a pressing requirement of transparency and trust on SSA information. This can only be achieved through developing in-house solutions. This proposal aims towards developing such a solution leveraging the advantages of cognitive computing.
Reducing human intervention/interaction in SSA:The current SSA solution requires frequent human involvement for planning and analysis. This increases the cognitive load on operators and decision makers and results in delays due to the lack of data dissemination. The proposed AI-assisted SSA engine will address these problems by updating an internal catalog, performing analysis through Machine Learning, and producing threat assessment reports for SSA decision makers.
Developing resource efficient solution: This proposal aims at designing an SSA solution which can take inexpensive Commercially-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) optical sensor data, publicly available historical data on space-objects and relevant information available in natural language as inputs.
